A first-class orchestra extending out to Asia and the world!
Daegu Symphony Orchestra
Daegu Symphony Orchestra began in 1964 and is one of the leading arts organizations in Daegu, itself a UNESCO city of music.

The Orchestra is proud of its half-century of history and tradition. Since its beginnings, the Daegu Symphony Orchestra has explored a broad range of music, experimenting with new plans and diverse repertoires, and led the development of classical music in Korea. To increase the scope of its audiences for classical music, it has staged regular concerts of authentic classical music, special concerts, on-site citizens happiness concerts, “Night of Youth Concerto,” “Night of College Students Concerto” and other special events designed to discover and cultivate promising classical musical talent in the region.

In March 2010, Daegu Symphony Orchestra began performance tours in Tokyo and Osaka to promote the 2011 World Athletics Championship.

In October 2011, Daegu Symphony Orchestra was invited to participate in the opening performance for Asia Orchestra Week 2011 held in Tokyo, Japan, drawing applause and receiving favorable reviews from the audience. In May 2015, Daegu City’s cultural delegation visited its sister city Hiroshima, Japan to give an orchestra and ensemble performance on the occasion of Daegu Citizens Day and the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan. In 2016, Daegu City Symphony Orchestra completed tours in three European countries (Berliner Philharmonie in Berlin, Germany, Smetana Hall in Prague, Czech Republic and Musikverein Goldener Saal in Vienna, Austria), lifting the standing of Korean musical talent on the global stage.
The Orchestra has continued to be invited to domestic music festivals and concerts in other cities and provinces including the Seoul Arts Center Orchestra Festival.

Daegu Concert House, the home of the Daegu Symphony Orchestra, is a classical music concert hall that reopened in November 2013

The House welcomed Julian Kovatchev, a world-renowned conductor who continues the tradition of Herbert von Karajan in April 2014, as its 10th music director and permanent conductor. Beautiful harmonies created by a top conductor mean our audiences enjoy classical music of the highest quality.
